Blogging?
May 29, 2023
I'm working on figuring out a blogging method. The dreamwidth method is okay, but I want to have a native neocities blog, I think. There's far too many different ways to go about doing this, so I'll probably cycle through a few until I figure out something I like. The two main methods are a stream-of-consciousness style, which is cool, but I tend to be very verbose in blog posts that aren't just music reviews, and I want to be able to record a few different topics, so the page would get way too long too fast. I want to figure out a tagging system, as well, so I'll probably have to suck it up and figure out some javascript to organize it better. I know Java and a small amount of Javascript, but it's been years since I've fooled around with it. I can't even remember what project I did with Javascript? Either way, my skills are rusty.
I think I'll settle on this method for now where each entry is a seperate page and file, as clunky as that is. I might eliminate the sidebar so I don't have to edit it nearly as much and have a single page with a directory to every entry. Not sure if I'll attempt a comment box on them too or just let people use the chat alone. Websites are tricky.
I originally had a paragraph of rambling about society here, but decided that I probably don't want my blog to just be a place of rambling about that. So instead, I'll do something sane and normal. I guess writing down what I'm doing in life is a good first step.
- I'm working on starting a personal chef business. I have a few steps before I can start actually cooking for customers. Most of that is business setup and practicing to make sure I can do the "cooking what people want to eat" thing. We don't eat a lot of pork or barbecue, and those are both probably things people would want to eat. My job would probably be mostly meal-prep for working couples and other people that have money to afford it but no time or interest to do it themselves.
- My husband and I bought a house last year and are fixing it up. We're trying to do the sort-of-homesteading thing. Not the extreme version where we are totally off-grid, but just enough to cover our own food and be able to eat higher-quality vegetables. I don't really garden, we don't have animals yet (which is more of my area of expertise), and it's too early for that much food to have come out of it so I haven't had much to do with it yet.
- I have been watching and playing some actual media. Lately I've watched a bit of the Hellraiser franchise, a few old 90s shows, and my husband and I just finished Land of the Lustrous (which is a pretty great anime but they never continued with a second season so now we have to switch to the manga). I have a collection of things on the list of stuff I have to watch/read. Also, I read homestuck earlier this year. What a ride. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life comes out next month, and I'm planning on purchasing it. I rarely purchase games the same year they come out (or at all), but it's a remake of one of my favorite games and seems to do a lot more than slap a new coat of paint on it.
- The house thing also means I am working on getting on some kind of chore schedule. In 2022, I made a resolution to learn how to keep a kitchen clean, and it worked very well. A lot of the kitchen cleaning tasks are basically automatic by now, and so it isn't piling up as bad. My 2023 resolution was to fix my wardrobe to shift towards natural materials and only own clothes I like to wear that look nice. It's been going okay. I always hated shopping, so it's a challenge, and the tendency for "natural" clothing to be a horrible biege crunchy granola mom aesthetic has caused me a bit of grief. I'm probably just going to wear a lot more tie-dye and make my own fun clothing. I'm not putting pictures of myself on here, but I just don't really do the little house on the prairie minimalist puritan thing.
- Since I now live a bit further from normal civilization, I have to figure out how to blow off steam and plan ahead for that. I have a very wide range of interests, so while I love living in the woods I also love going to clubs, doing karaoke, attending concerts, and other very non-country types of things. I'm thinking of putting together a goth night in the nearest city. It has the market for one and I have attended them elsewhere before.
